The temple is in Phra Nakhon District, the historical center of Bangkok. Buddha image is carved by using green jadeite in the temple. The history behind Wat Phra Kaew is is constructed in the reign of King Rama 1 when the capital of Thailand moved from Thonburi to Bangkok and the king order to construct a new palace. The construction of the temple started in 1782. In this process, King Rama 1 founded the new dynasty called Chakri dynasty. After two years that in 1784 the temple is constructed successfully. The total area of the palace is 200,000 square meters.

Temple of the Emerald Buddha is comprised of different elements and structures, surrounded by a perimeter wall. The main building of this temple is known as Phra Ubosot where you will find the emerald Buddha statue. Buddha image is carved by using green jadeite in the temple.  The biggest palace is divided into three courts i.e. the inner court, the middle court, and the outer court. In its outer court, the emerald Buddha resides. The temple is decorated with paintings, carvings, and pagodas. The temple view looks so pleasing to eyes. These three constructions are very close to each other. These can be referred to the Buddhist philosophy about reincarnation and cosmos. The height of Emerald Buddha is two feet high, seated in the temple with one leg resting on the other leg. Buddha robe is change three times a year according to seasons like summer, winter and rainy. The Thai king does this costume changing ceremony.

 

Thai people believe in worshipping the sacred Buddha because in their view he will bring good luck to them. The inner walls of the temple are embellished with murals and the motifs represent the beliefs of Buddhist and Hindus.
